Whats up with this HDTV thing for nex-gen consoles?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

should i bother buying the xbox360 when my tv is a normal-definition 480i whatever…..cuz i checked this comparison on gamespot and i kinda feel disappointed (http://www.gamespot.com/features/6140621/index.html);

so to ppl with normal definition tv's and Xbox 360's, do u guys find a big diffrence and get a thrill with playing on Xbox 360 just like u would with an HDTV…….?
is there a way i can get HD somehow with my tv….cuz i cant afford a new tv for a console y'know also cuz i bought it a year and a half ago only and its perfect otherwise(Sony Wega 29'')

Well the Xbox 360 puts out a HD resolution but you don't need to have a HDTV to use the console. The graphics just look a whole lot better on an HDTV. Besides the Xbox 360 still reads its games off of regular DVD's and you need to buy an add-on to play the HD-DVD's. If you want a true HD console you would have to buy a PS3.

The picture quality is really bad on my new Sanyo 42 inch HD flat panel, What should/can I do?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

We have hooked up our new HDTV and the picture is blurry and not very clear. Our old standard TV had a clearer picture. In comparison to a friend's HDTV (same one) there is a huge difference. We have Comcast HD digital cable. We are using the HDMI connector as recommended. Is this a defect or could we be doing something wrong? Please help, Thanks :O)

make sure you are actually using a HD signal from your cable provider.

HDTV vs Computer Monitor?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

Since HDTV is just a buzzword and actually just refers to resolution, why is it so expensive for a television to have good resolution but not a computer monitor?

Here is an example. I have a regular run of the mill computer monitor I've had for about 8 years. When I hook my xbox 360 to it, I can get resolution that is higher than 720p, but not quite 1080i. However, all the televisions I see that are under $1k can only display 720p.

So basically, any "HDTV" I buy for under $1k is a downgrade from my monitor, yet I can buy a new monitor that can display higher than 720p for a couple hundred bucks.

So if computer monitors can display HD so easily and cheaply, why do they charge an arm and a leg for a television to do that? What is different between a television and computer monitor?

Just for comparison, my monitor is 20 inches, an HDTV that size is more expensive than my monitor and doesn't have as good of resolution. Why?
I guess no one really cares or understands what I'm saying since no answers. I guess I should jump on the bandwagon and buy an HDTV when my monitor can do it better and cheaper, because that is logical.
Very strong and articulated argument TV Tech Man. When you spell it out like that I can see where the extra cost is incurred. Thanks for your response. All though I do think they inflate the cost a bit b/c they get to use buzzwords like "HDTV" or "Full HD" and so on.

Well….what are you MISSING in a computer monitor??

Sound Circuits, INPUT circuits and the TUNER circuits….
You don't get a REMOTE with your monitor do you?
What about all the choices IN YOUR MENU?

Your monitor is beginning to sound a little TOO BASIC in my book…..

Man, you're missing a lot in a monitor….all it does is produce a picture with only one type of connection on it…It doesn't have circuits for HDMI , Component and S-Video, and Standard Video either…
You can't hook up Audio at all….and there's no circuitry for Digital Audio OR Optical Audio…

And talk about the LACK of CHANNELS….all you have is PC Video, You don't get channels 2-69 on UHF band and 2-125 on Cable Band, and NONE of the Digital Sub Channels…..

You can't stand 10 feet away from it and turn it on or off….
or change the brightness or width of the picture….you can't select Warm or Cool Color Temperatures, can't get Closed Captioning…..

It comes up a little short in the ENTERTAINMENT world…..

Hook up your DVD player to the Monitor….
Hook up your PS3 or Sony Xbox….
Oh…….you can't, can you ? AT LEAST not without UNPLUGGING your computer….No switchable Inputs !!

But you CAN hook up a computer to a TV….if you read the instructions….

What would the picture quality be like?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

Im buying an xbox 360 and i need a TV for it too. I could spend 500 quid on a 23" HDTV (which i know would have flawless picture quality). But i have found a pc monitor (HP W2207 22"), for 230 quid. It has a native resolution of 1680×1050 (16:10 ratio), but in order to use the pc monitor id need to buy the VGA cable, which doesnt support the monitors native resolution. The highest resolution which it supports that is still in proportion (16:10) is 1280×768.
Would the picture quality be badly affected if i were to go for the cheaper pc monitor in comparison to the expensive HDTV? If so would it be worth the price differance?

Thanks in advance.

You would be better off in the long run getting the tv as the monitor will give you all sorts of compatability problems also the 360 could have problems operating to its true potential through the monitor as opposed to the tv

is it worth it to get an hdtv if I will only use it for an xbox 360?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

I have pretty much decided to get an xbox 360 in the near future. I was thinking of getting a tv to go along with it. however, I don't have hd service or whatever. and I don't think I'm going to have it any time soon. I don't want to spend more than like 200 dollars. basically it appears my options are 20 inch regular tv or 15 inch lcd. the 20 inch says hd built in and best buy had some hd comparison thing playing on the tv. what do you guys think?

Since you're a GAMER….yes, it's worth it….

Because you WILL get an HD-DVD if not a BLU-RAY for your X-box….

THEN you'll want HD from a satellite or Cable….

But then again, you should save your money and get a Bigger TV set…..

Where's a good site to go to to compare HDTV's?

Author: admin  //  Category: HDTV Comparison

Never owning an hdtv I'm not sure what's all availible in options. And I'm also wanting to see an overall comparison of various brands and models and prices. Is there such a site out there?

Home theater magazine has a good buyers guide at http://www.hometheatermag.com/buyersguides/

Yahoo tech also has a good guide at

http://tech.yahoo.com/qg/quick-guide-to-hdtvs/quickguide

You can easily find a lot more info than you probably want. I would suggest first deciding on a plasma or an LCD. If your going to play video games on the tv then plasma is out right away. They have gotten much better in recent years but they still suffer from burn in and you should never play video games on them. Plasmas do have a better picture than lcds though. If your not going to play games, choose a plasma. They have gone to 1080p resolution which is a waste of money unless your thinking about a 50" or larger screen (50" at less than a 10' viewing distance, that is). The human eye can't pick out the difference in resolution between 720p and 1080p at further distances/small screen sizes.
My suggestion for a Plasma would be Panasonic or Pioneer. Both make excellent panels with deep dark blacks. There are still 720P sets available at Costco and BJs and you may find some elsewhere as well. The prices are much better than that of 1080p sets. If you decide on an LCD, Sharp Aquos and Toshiba make good sets. In this case, I would suggest a 1080 set but not because of the resolution. The newer 1080's have better electronics and less motion blur (when fast moving objects are shown on LCD, they tend to blur).
Screen size is also a major decision. With the old 4:3 sets the resolution was such that you wanted to be a certain distance from the set to make it look better. That's not really a concern anymore but you do want to be far enough away to see the whole screen without having to move your head or eyes around (causes fatique after awhile). Most sets today have a similar options (hdmi inputs are important and the set you buy should have at least 2). Good luck searching, you're gonna love your new TV!!!
